Welcome to AI for Social Science, an open-offering course developed in partnership between the Digital Skills Lab and the LSE-incubated AI startup PigeonLine.

This 3 module course will introduce AI to students, researchers and professionals, with a focus on practical lessons rather than coding or programming. The goal is to equip you to navigate new and emerging tools that are changing the nature of our work.

Who this is for - Student, researchers or professionals:
  • with limited or no previous AI exposure but who would like to be able to recognize and interact with AI in real-world settings
  • who utilize unstructured data such as text (qualitative researchers)
  • with some formal experience but interested in looking at social dimensions such as bias
Who this is not for:
  • Individuals looking to become data scientists or professional programmers
Course structure:
Each module includes at least 3 videos covering a range of academic as well as practical themes. Each module may also include an article and further discussions.

Modules 1 and 2 conclude with quizzes. These must be completed in order for you to complete the course. These require you to watch each video as well as read the posted articles. The final module concludes with an assignment that will test practical research skills using new technologies as well as your ability to identify dimensions of AI.
